Tibet Handicraft Centre
What: School projectat NTNU Trondheim, exchange.
When: Autumn 2008
Where: Barkor, Lhasa, Tibet.
Program: New Handicraft Centre for Tibetan Art and handicraft. Shop, Gallery and workshop.
Size: aprox 650m2
After two months in Tibet studying Tibetan architecture and culture, we returned to Trondheim to make our proposal for a town house in Lhasa. We made our own program and found our own site in the old town.
The main intention was to try something completely different. How to build in a country with other culture, materials and building tecqnicqes than we are used to? The world is getting smaller, but it’s still important to cope with local traditions and materials.
